Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe: Old News Steals the Show

Much is being made about the Corvettes, Mustangs, F-150s and everything else coming out of the 2014 North American International Auto Show. But one car that is not even new news has blown them all away. It is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept, and I can not stop staring at it.
The S-Class Coupe is the replacement for the CL-Class, which in-turn was a re-branding of the S-Class coupe. It had also gone by SEC-Class from 1980 to the early 1990s. The name keeps changing, but the important thing to remember is that Mercedes-Benz could not be Mercedes-Benz without a big, beamy coupe.

The S-Class Coupe (obviously) rides on the same platform as the W222 full-size S-Class sedan. The Coupe is painfully stunning, with a long hood, massive wheels, and strong, sculpted body lines. The car was originally unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, but is upstaging many newer unveilings in its North American Debut.

We couldn’t get a full shot of the interior, but what we can see is lovely. The cabin, with its massive digital interface, was designed by the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Center in Palo Alto, CA. And that all-white leather just screams classy SOB.

Sure, the S-Class Coupe features a biturbo V8 that makes 449 horsepower, but who cares– it could have a hamster spinning a wheel under the hood– this would still be the most stunning car at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show!
